So here's the thing...

or rather, a few things:

We're having a BOY and are pretty darn excited about that. I'm at 19 weeks and feeling fabulous.

We purchased a crib which is expected to arrive any day now.

I can feel our little guy moving around in there, and let me just say that there is nothing better than that feeling.

I'm obsessed with the baby and all things associated. It's all I think about, and all I want to talk about. I wore my first maternity pants to work today (thanks, Mom!) and was so excited to show them off to my coworkers, who either laughed and said I didn't need them yet (the ladies) or just looked kind of scarred and said "that's really nice" (the boys). Note to self: the guys at work do not share your enthusiasm and are usually made uncomfortable when you try to talk about pregnancy-related stuff.

Poor Matthew was sick on Monday and has many tests this week. He's in the testing center at the moment and I'm in the Harold B. Lee library blogging because I'm so done with looking at graduate school websites and trying to think of how to demonstrate his passion for the field and assess his professional and leadership attributes and other such nonsense. Let's just say that he's a great guy who wants to pay money to go to your school and you're not really going to know for sure how he'll do until he's there doing it. PS (I guess I got a little ahead of myself) Matt is graduating next spring and wants to go to grad school in the fall to get his Masters in Health Administration. Our first choice is Virginia but we're applying to some others as well. Wish us luck!Loving the fall weather, but dreading winter at the same time. I'm all about cooking cozy delicious foods these days. Anyone have just the right recipe...perhaps a soup or even a festive dessert?

  2. You are so cute and so is your little tiny belly that you are always so excited to show! Yay for a crib, what did you decide on? And I love talking pregnancy things too even not being pregnant. If I ever talk too much, just let me know:) I can't wait to meet your little guy, he will be here before you know it!

  4. A great fall soup:

-chop up 1 onion, butternut squash (the yellow ones), and 2 carrots
-saute in butter and salt for 8ish minutes, then add 2 cans chicken broth and simmer for 20
-let cool slightly, then puree in blender in shifts
-return to pan, bring to light boil, add cream, nutmeg, and white pepper and heat through

It looks like fall, smells like it, and tastes great. And it's healthy and boys even like it.

We had it with pita chips and hummus but I'm thinking about making some of Emeril's cheesy pastry straws next time.

    I miss your belly.

  5. Congratulations on a BOY! That's quite a change for the Hawkins family!

Fall = apples and brie. Try honey crisp or gala with just a bit of soft cheese.

  6. I can't believe you are almost 20 weeks already!! You're such a cute little mom already. I don't have any recipes to pass on, but I'm definitely sneaking Alli's yummy soup recipe off here. : )

  7. Depending on tastes and what bugs you when pregnant (I have consta-heartburn and can't eat anything remotely spicy):
Butternut squash soup: just cook up your butternut however you like and puree with a little chicken broth and cream. Amazing with hot whole wheat rolls. REALLY good for you.
My personal favorite fall fave? Warm pumpkin pie. Libby's recipe is the best (yes, the one on the can--can you believe it?) Let it cool 2 hours out of the oven, whip your cream, and eat it before it gets cold. It's light, delicious, heavenly, and sort of good for you, again!! Gotta love health food ;).
