Virginia Beach

Megan came for the weekend and we had one last hoorah on the beach. The weather was fabulous and we had a perfect day.

2 months

Our sweet girl weighed 14lbs 6oz at her checkup!  And I thought Tom was a fat baby.  He was 12lbs 12oz at this age.  We love every roll!

whatever it takes

Sometimes when I take a shower I bring her in the bathroom with me while Tom is playing downstairs or watching a show.  She likes the noise of the shower, but when I'm getting dressed and doing my makeup she can get fussy.  The other day I left the hair dryer running next to her so I could finish getting ready and it put her right to sleep!  Now if I could just figure out a way to install one next to her crib...

Easter and such

The day before Easter we had a hunt in the field with lots of neighbors.
Tom loved searching for his basket and finding his treats.
Aunt Megan came to visit from DC for the weekend.
And Aunt Tori and Maddie were on spring break so they got to come all the way from California with my parents.  YAY!
Matt gave Grayce her blessing that day at church and did a very sweet job.  She wore the same dress I was blessed in and I just realized I don't have a very good picture of it.  It was lovely, even with the top button undone to let her neck breathe. ;)  At least you couldn't tell from the front.
After church we had lunch with the Pericles and helped Sue eat her birthday cake.

Besides torturing the dog, this is Tom's favorite thing to do at the Pericles' house.  Aunt Tori was his new favorite because she could always be talked into jumping with him.

Friday the 13th

Today was an unlucky day for us. Tom learned how to open the front door and climb out of his crib all in the same day! Kind of like how a few weeks ago he learned to open the fridge and climb onto the counters and pantry shelves all in the same day. Only this is way less cool than that. He has known how to get out of his crib for a while now but he just never did. He was waiting for Friday the 13th. And our front door is a little tricky but he finally figured out how to turn it just right on this special day.
So here's how today went: Matt didn't have class so I went to get my hair cut and left him to put
Tom down for his nap. I came back to find that he hadn't slept at all because he kept getting out. So he was unruly all afternoon (although I did take him to Hobby Lobby, his least favorite store, so I don't blame him) and then he threw his dinner on the floor. We were waiting for his friends to come play after dinner and while I was tidying up I noticed that it was a little too quiet. I came out of the kitchen to find the front door open. A neighbor I don't know had stopped his car to let Tommy cross the street and was getting out to bring him back home. So I thanked and apologized and thanked again and gave Tom the "we don't go in the street or the cars will get us" speech for the 2,017th time and we came inside to play. After he was done bullying his friends, I put him to bed thinking I'd have no trouble with him staying in his crib because he was so tired. Not so. He snuck out and followed me downstairs, so I tucked him in again. A few tries later, I thought that if he couldn't find me he'd give up and go back in. So Grayce and I locked ourselves in my bedroom and when I came out to check on him, he was downstairs on the front porch! So sneaky and quiet! He got out 16 more times in the next 30 minutes before I lost count and finally sat in the rocking chair with Grayce until he fell asleep. So Matt is getting a high lock for the door on his way home tonight and we're going to turn Tom's bedroom doorknob around and lock him in next time.
Here's the little ruffian before the incidents. Maybe it was his new hairdo that did it. My dad always said that a little girl with pigtails can't be expected to behave with such a hairdo. No more mohawks for him!

Ready, set, GO COUGARS!

That's what he says when he's about to race.

We sure love this funny guy!

1 month old

This little chubba turned 1 month old today. She is seriously the sweetest thing ever.

And here's Tom causing a ruckus in the bathroom during Grayce's photo shoot. He likes to brush his teeth (which really means suck toothpaste from the tube and rearrange our toiletries) several times a day. He is really into climbing lately. It's going to give me a heart attack. He scoots his high chair all around the kitchen and gets into the cupboards and freezer and parties on the stove. Or sometimes he just watches out the window for any sign of activity at the Hinrich's house and yells "jonkarajonkarajon!" if he sees one of them. You could say he likes his neighbors.
Here he is on our trip to DC to see the cherry blossoms. They were lovely, but we didn't actually get out to walk along because we didn't know that everyone and their dog was going to be there for the festival and we were stuck in traffic, so we just admired them from our car. We also ate at Tune In (we saw it on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives) which turned out to be a bar and not a restaurant and I was the only female in the joint besides the waitresses and I almost didn't survive the wait for our meal because of the exceedingly rude men next to us smoking all over my babies. Was the fried hamburger worth it? I'm still not sure.

And here are some other photos from the past month:

Tom loves to hold her and help wash her in the bath, put her pacifier in her (and his) mouth, offer her bites of his food, and pat her belly and say "don't cry, baby Grayce". He's such a sweet big brother.
